2

Strip metadata

Runs FFmpeg -map_metadata -1 -c copy. No re-encoding, no quality loss — processes in seconds.

Download clean file

GPS, device info, and timestamps are gone. Verify with ExifTool or MediaInfo if you need to be sure.

When to strip video metadata

  • Publishing phone-shot footage without exposing GPS coordinates, device model, or the account that captured it.
  • Anonymising material before sending to a source, client, or publisher — journalism, legal, HR investigations.
  • Cleaning up an export so viewers can’t see your editor brand, project name, or comment fields.

Why strip metadata here

  • Lossless and fast — stream-copy finishes in seconds even for GB-scale files.
  • Removes title, comment, artist, creation time, GPS, device make/model, encoder fingerprints, and chapter markers in one pass.
  • Runs entirely in your browser. The footage you are trying to anonymise never leaves your device.

Questions Fréquentes

What metadata is in my video file?

Phone-recorded videos commonly embed GPS coordinates (where it was shot), device make and model, creation date and time zone, and sometimes the user account or Apple ID that captured it. Camera exports may also include serial numbers, lens info, and editing software fingerprints.

Does stripping metadata change the video quality?

No. The tool uses FFmpeg stream-copy (-c copy) — the video and audio streams are copied bit-for-bit. Only the container-level metadata fields are dropped. Quality, resolution, duration, and file size (minus a few KB of metadata) stay identical.

Is this safe for whistleblowing, journalism, or anonymised publishing?

The tool strips common identifying metadata (GPS, device, timestamps) stored at the container level. However, steganographic watermarks, scene-specific identifiers, or audio fingerprints cannot be removed — a determined analyst may still identify the source through other means. For high-stakes anonymisation, combine with re-encoding and audio replacement.

Why does my file still look identical in size?

Metadata is typically a few KB out of many MB or GB. The size reduction is real but tiny relative to the overall file. Use a tool like ExifTool or MediaInfo on the output to verify that the fields are actually gone.

Does my file get uploaded anywhere?

No. Processing happens entirely inside your browser tab using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Open DevTools → Network tab while processing — you will see zero uploads.
