What to learn first
Almost everything that makes an edit watchable is decided in the first hour of learning: where to cut, how loud the dialogue sits against the music, and which export settings the platform actually wants. Software choice matters far less than any of those, and switching editors will not fix a cut that lands in the wrong place. Work through a few of these in order rather than picking the one with the most interesting title.
| Cut on motion | A cut placed while something is moving is close to invisible; the same cut on a still frame is a jolt. |
|---|---|
| Fix the audio first | Viewers forgive a soft picture and leave over bad sound. Level the dialogue before touching colour. |
| Export once, correctly | Most quality loss happens at export, not during editing — wrong resolution, wrong codec, or a second re-encode on upload. |
