Image work here is the practical kind: getting a file under a size limit, into a format something will accept, cropped to a shape, or stripped of the data a camera wrote into it. All of it happens in the browser, which for images matters most for the metadata case — a photo that never leaves your machine cannot leak its GPS tag on the way to a converter.
